FAQ

What do I do if my new replacement heads are not spinning?

The first thing you should do is check your batteries. Second, the tolerance on new heads are adjusted so they are very tight. Let the heads run for a couple of minutes. If they are still not spinning, spray an edible oil such as pam or olive oil onto the heads and let them run for a few more minutes. This should loosen the new heads and correct the spinning. Even if the heads are still running slowly, they will after a few times be back to normal.

Can I use the toothbrush in the shower or can I submerge it?

It is highly recommended that you do not use the toothbrush in the shower or submerge it because there is a circuit board inside the toothbrush that controls the timer. If this timer gets wet, it can result in the toothbrush coming on at random times.

Why do I need to brush for 2 minutes?

Because your dentist tells you so. Consumer Reports states, "Two minutes is the amount of time dentists say you should spend brushing your teeth. The average American brushes for only 45-60 seconds, and that's not time enough for some toothpastes to release most of their fluoride or enough time to brush away plaque."

Can I use the TwinSpin with braces?

Is the TwinSpin safe for my child to use?

Yes, the TwinSpin is safe for use by children over the age of 3 years.

Does an electric toothbrush clean better than my old manual toothbrush?

According to a recent study by the independent Oxford based Cochrane Collaboration, "Brushes that worked with a rotation oscillation action removed more plaque and reduced gingivitis more effectively than manual brushes in the short and long term." Electric toothbrushes with a rotation oscillation action (brushes that rotate one direction, stop, then rotate the other direction), such as the Orawave 2-minute TwinSpin have been shown to remove 11% more plaque than a manual toothbrush over a three-month period. Over a six-month period, electric toothbrushes with rotation oscillation action such as the Orawave 2-minute TwinSpin, when compared to manual brushes, can reduce the gum disease, Gingivitis, by as much as 17%.

How do I get the battery cap off?

Are the bristles on the 2-minute TwinSpin hard, medium, or soft?

The bristles on the Orawave 2-minute TwinSpin are soft bristles.

Does the 2-minute TwinSpin actually spin?

No, the 2-minute TwinSpin actually uses "rotation oscillation" action. First, the brush head rotates to the right, then rotates to the left. The 2 brush heads counter-oscillate, meaning while the top brush is moving to the right, the bottom brush is rotating to the left. The 2 brush heads rotate back and forth for extra cleaning action.

Why have the brush heads stopped moving?

Between the brush heads, you will notice a small "ball and socket" plastic joint. We have found that in some cases, toothpaste is getting inside that joint, then drying and hardening. When this happens, both brush heads are not able to move in the full range they are designed to. Placing the brush head (removed from the base) in a cup of warm water for an hour will loosen this dried toothpaste and allow the brush to work like new.

Why do the toothbrushes have wide bases?

The toothbrushes were designed this way for two reasons. The wide base allows the product to stand up next to the sink so that it stays out of the water, soap, hair, or lotion that may accumulate. Secondly, the cone-shaped handles are much easier to hold, especially for people with limited dexterity.

How often should I use the polishing cup attachment?

It is safe to use your polishing cup whenever you want to work on stains, as long as you are using a regular white colored toothpaste.
It should not be necessary to use it every day like you brush your teeth, although with oscillating heads the prophy angle is much safer than the rotating model used by most hygenists.
